Who is PR Viet written for?
Foreign tourism boards, hotels, attractions, airlines and their agencies who want Vietnamese travellers, and the Vietnamese trade, to choose their destination or product.
Does PR Viet offer PR or advertising services in Vietnam?
No. It is an information guide. It carries labelled advertising spaces on its own pages, but it does not run campaigns, place media or broker influencers.
How current are the figures?
Each section shows the date its sources were last checked. This edition was checked on 28 October 2026.
Is the guide available in Vietnamese?
No. It is written in English for teams outside Vietnam; it explains where Vietnamese-language material is needed.

Outbound market
How many Vietnamese travelled abroad in 2025?
The National Statistics Office reported about 6.7 million trips abroad in 2025, up 26.4% on 2024.
Is there an official list of the destinations Vietnamese visit most?
Not from Vietnam. The available figures come from destination countries, each for its own period.
When is the busiest time for Vietnamese outbound travel?
The first half of the year carried most trips in 2025. It contains Tet and the 30 April and 1 May holidays.

Media and platforms
Which social platform reaches most Vietnamese?
Facebook, Zalo and TikTok all report audiences close to 80 million, but they measure different things: ad reach for Facebook and TikTok, monthly active users for Zalo.
Do Vietnamese news sites cover foreign destinations?
Yes. Large titles run travel sections that publish stories about destinations abroad.
Is Zalo used for marketing or for customer service?
Both, but its core is messaging. Businesses use official accounts to talk to people who have already interacted with them.

How many destinations can Vietnamese visit without a visa?
The Henley Passport Index counted 48 destinations reachable without a visa obtained in advance in its March 2026 update. Check each country's official rules before relying on any list.
Which travel fairs in Vietnam are open to the public?
ITE HCMC opens to consumers, with tour offers, next to its trade programme. Check VITM Hanoi's programme with its organiser.

Working in Vietnam
Can a foreign tourism board buy advertising in Vietnam directly?
The Law on Advertising says a foreign organisation not operating in Vietnam must hire a Vietnamese advertising service provider. Confirm the current text with a Vietnamese lawyer.
Do Vietnamese influencers have to label paid posts?
Yes. Since 1 January 2026 the law requires influencers to announce clearly that content is advertising.

How many trips abroad did Vietnamese make in 2025?
About 6.7 million, up 26.4% on 2024, according to the National Statistics Office.
Do most Vietnamese travel abroad on package tours?
A 2025 Tet survey found 44% of outbound travellers preferred all-inclusive tours. Some destinations report a shift towards self-guided travel. Both routes matter.
Can I add up destination arrival figures to get the total?
No. Destination figures cover different periods and definitions, and multi-country trips are counted more than once.
How much does a Vietnamese traveller spend on a trip abroad?
One commercial survey of Tet 2025 put the average international trip at nearly VND 37 million. Treat it as a survey answer, not a market statistic.

Where they go
Which country do Vietnamese travellers visit most?
Reports for 2025 put Thailand, Japan, Korea and Taiwan in front, but the available figures cover different periods, so no single order can be confirmed from them.
Does needing a visa stop Vietnamese travellers?
Not on its own. Korea requires a visa from Vietnamese travellers and still reported growth in Vietnamese arrivals in 2025, as did Japan.
Is there data on Vietnamese travel to Europe?
VOV reported in July 2025 that official data for parts of Europe was not yet available. Destination countries' own statistics are the best source.

Holiday calendar
When is Tet 2027?
The first day of the lunar new year falls on 6 February 2027. Public employees have a seven-day break from 4 to 10 February 2027.
Do Vietnamese travel abroad during Tet?
Some do, but a 2025 survey found international trips tend to be planned for after Tet, with demand rising in March.
How long is the National Day break in 2027?
Four days for public employees, from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 September 2027.
When do private-sector employees learn their Tet dates?
Employers must announce their chosen option at least 30 days before the holiday.

Social platforms
Is Facebook still the largest platform in Vietnam?
Facebook's advertising reach was 79.0 million in late 2025. Zalo reported 78.3 million monthly active users and TikTok 76.1 million adults reachable with ads. The measures differ, so they cannot be ranked precisely.
Can a foreign brand use Zalo?
Businesses use Zalo Official Account to message and serve customers. You need someone who can reply in Vietnamese.
Do creators on TikTok and YouTube have to label paid content?
Yes. Both platforms require a paid-promotion setting, and Vietnamese law requires influencers to announce advertising clearly.
How reliable are the audience figures?
They are the platforms' own advertising-reach figures, except Zalo's, which are the company's active-user statements. Use them for scale, not precision.

Travel media
Are Vietnamese news sites licensed?
Press agencies operate under licences, which are shown in their footers. Blogs and fan pages are not press agencies.
Should a press release for Vietnamese media be in English?
Travel desks that reach Vietnamese travellers write in Vietnamese, so prepare the core material in Vietnamese.
Does a news outlet's TikTok channel count as press?
Under the Press Law amendment passed in December 2025, a press agency's channels on social networks are a type of press product, with the head of the agency responsible for their content.

Visas
How many countries can Vietnamese visit without a visa?
The Henley Passport Index counted 48 destinations reachable without a visa obtained in advance in its 9 March 2026 update. That count includes visa on arrival and electronic travel authorisations.
Do Vietnamese need a visa for Japan or Korea?
Neither is named in Tuoi Tre's summary of the March 2026 Henley lists, and VOV noted the visa requirement for Korea. Check the official consular website for current rules.
Does a visa requirement stop Vietnamese demand?
Not by itself. Korea requires a visa and still reported about 10% growth in Vietnamese arrivals in the first half of 2025.
What is the Vietnamese passport's Henley rank?
84th in the update of 9 March 2026, up from 86th in January 2026.

Travel fairs
When is ITE HCMC 2027?
The organiser's website announces 9 to 11 September 2027 at SECC, Ho Chi Minh City.
When is VITM Hanoi 2027?
The 2027 dates were not shown on the organiser's website when we checked. The 2026 edition ran from 10 to 12 April 2026.
Do foreign tourism boards exhibit at these fairs?
Yes. At ITE HCMC 2026 they included the Korea Tourism Organization and the Japan National Tourism Organization, among others.
Can the public buy trips at the fairs?
At ITE HCMC, yes: it opens to consumers, and travel companies sell packages with fair offers. Check VITM's programme with its organiser.

Advertising law
Must a foreign tourism board use a Vietnamese agency to advertise in Vietnam?
Article 39 of the Law on Advertising says that foreign organisations not operating in Vietnam must hire a Vietnamese advertising service provider. Confirm how it applies to you with a Vietnamese lawyer.
When did the amended advertising law take effect?
Law 75/2025/QH15 took effect on 1 January 2026.
Can ads in Vietnam be in English only?
No. Advertising must contain Vietnamese, with limited exceptions such as brand names. Foreign text may be at most three quarters the size of the Vietnamese and placed below it.
How fast must unlawful online ads be removed?
Within 24 hours of a request from a competent authority, under the amended law and Decree 342/2025.

Agencies and KOLs
What is the difference between a KOL and a KOC?
In Vietnamese marketing usage, a KOL is a key opinion leader with a large following, and a KOC a key opinion consumer who reviews products as a customer. Both count as advertising conveyors when paid to promote.
Must a Vietnamese creator have visited a destination before promoting it?
Influencers must not promote products they have not used or do not clearly understand, under the law in force since 1 January 2026. A visit is the practical way to meet that duty.
What label must a paid post carry?
Officials described the rule as labelling KOL advertising "quảng cáo" (advertising) or "tài trợ" (sponsored), in addition to the platform's own paid-partnership setting.
Can PR Viet recommend an agency?
No. The guide does not recommend or rank agencies; it lists the questions to ask them.

Localisation
Do I need a Vietnamese-language website?
For advertising shown in Vietnam, Vietnamese is required by law. For the pages people land on, a Vietnamese version is the practical expectation of customers and agents.
How do Vietnamese customers prefer to pay?
Domestic bank transfer and QR payment are routine in Vietnam. Check with your payment provider which options work across borders for your business.
Which chat app should a foreign hotel use for Vietnamese guests?
Zalo reported 78.3 million monthly active users in Vietnam, and Messenger reaches many Facebook users. Use the one you can staff in Vietnamese.

Who is behind PR Viet?
The pages are written and checked by the PR Viet editors, named as the author on every page.
Does PR Viet accept payment for coverage?
There are no paid placements in the text. Advertising, where it appears, is labelled and kept separate.
Why do some figures cover only part of a year?
Because full-year figures were not available from a source we could check. The page states the period and will be updated when full-year figures are confirmed.

Can I pay for an article about my destination?
No. Editorial pages are not for sale. Advertising appears only in labelled spaces.
Is there a rate card?
Not on the site. Terms are agreed in writing after an enquiry.
Do you sell PR or influencer services?
No. PR Viet sells advertising space on its own pages only.
Can a Vietnamese company advertise on PR Viet?
Yes, if its offer is useful to organisations outside Vietnam working on the Vietnamese outbound market, and it meets the same rules as every other advertiser.

Can you introduce us to an agency in Vietnam?
No. PR Viet does not broker or recommend agencies. The briefing page lists questions to ask them.
Will you publish my name?
Not unless you ask. A correction is credited to "a reader" by default.
Can I send a source in Vietnamese?
Yes. Official Vietnamese texts and announcements are often the best source, and many pages on this site cite them.
How long does a correction take?
It depends on the source. A correction backed by an official text or statistic can be checked quickly; one that needs confirmation from a second source takes longer. The page shows the new check date once it is changed.
