Vietnamese social platforms for travel brands

Three platforms each report close to 80 million users in Vietnam: Facebook, Zalo and TikTok. They do very different jobs. This page gives the latest published figures for each platform, says what kind of number each one is, and explains how a foreign destination, hotel or attraction typically uses it.

All figures are from DataReportal's Digital 2026 report for Vietnam, which was published at the end of 2025 and uses data mostly from October 2025. DataReportal warns that advertising reach is not the same as monthly active users, that platforms revise their figures, and that its 2026 numbers should not be compared with its earlier reports to calculate growth. For context, it counts 85.6 million internet users and 79.0 million social media user identities in Vietnam.

How people actually spend their time

Audience size is one question; attention is another. Q&Me, a commercial research firm, analysed the screen time of 100 iPhone users for its 2026 app-usage report. It found about 7.1 hours a day on apps, and among social apps the largest shares of time went to Facebook (25%), TikTok (19%) and Zalo (16%). TikTok was used weekly by 82% of the sample. The sample is small and limited to iPhone owners, so treat it as a sign of direction, not a measurement of the country.

Facebook: the default public presence

Facebook's advertising reach in Vietnam equalled 77.6% of the population in late 2025, and Meta's tools showed it growing by 5.3 million over the twelve months to October 2025. For a foreign travel brand, a Vietnamese-language Facebook page is usually the first public presence that local agents and journalists look for, and the place where paid campaigns are easiest to target by city, age and interest.

Facebook groups matter too: travel communities exchange itineraries, visa experiences and photos, and a destination's reputation there is built by travellers, not by the brand. Watching what is said in those groups, in Vietnamese, is one of the cheapest forms of market research available.

TikTok: short video and creators

TikTok's ad tools reported 76.1 million adults reachable in Vietnam in late 2025. Short video was described by an official of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's broadcasting authority, at a November 2025 seminar, as the dominant format of digital advertising in Vietnam. Most destination content on TikTok is made by creators rather than brands, which is why the rules on influencer advertising matter so much.

TikTok requires creators to switch on its commercial content setting when they promote a brand, which adds a "Paid partnership" label; content that should carry the label but does not may be excluded from the For You feed. Vietnamese law since 2026 adds its own labelling duty, covered on the KOL briefing page.

Zalo: messaging, not a feed

Zalo, owned by VNG, had 78.3 million monthly active users in Vietnam according to the company, equal to 91.4% of the country's internet users. It is the everyday messaging app for families, colleagues and businesses. Its business product, Zalo Official Account, lets a company message people who have interacted with it, place voice and video calls under its brand name, run menus and chatbots, publish articles and video, manage community groups, keep customer notes in a small CRM, and see statistics; advanced features come in paid packages.

For a foreign hotel, attraction or tourism board, Zalo is where a Vietnamese customer or agent will expect to ask a question and get an answer. It is less a channel for reaching new audiences than for serving the ones you already have. Setting it up needs someone who can answer in Vietnamese; see the localisation page.

YouTube: long-form and search

YouTube's advertising reach in Vietnam was 62.1 million in late 2025, 61.0% of the population. Long-form travel videos, vlogs and destination guides live here, and they keep being found through search long after they are posted. YouTube asks creators to declare paid promotion, which places a label at the start of the video, and lets them restrict branded content by age and country to meet local advertising law.

Instagram, Messenger and LinkedIn

  • Instagram reached 11.7 million in late 2025, about one in nine people, with a female majority among adult users (56.7%). It is far smaller than Facebook in Vietnam.
  • Messenger reached 57.8 million. For customers who find a brand on its Facebook page, it is the obvious first place to send a question, so it needs the same Vietnamese-language cover as Zalo.
  • LinkedIn listed 10.0 million members. It is useful for reaching Vietnamese travel trade, MICE planners and corporate travel buyers, not for consumer campaigns.

Accounts must be verified in Vietnam

Decree 147/2024/ND-CP on internet services, in force since 25 December 2024, requires social network accounts to be verified with a Vietnamese mobile number, or a personal identification number for users without one, and allows only verified accounts to post, comment and livestream. Commercial livestreams need verification by personal identification number. Foreign cross-border providers are covered if they host data in Vietnam or have at least 100,000 monthly visits from Vietnam.

In practice a foreign brand that wants staff in Vietnam, or an agency, to manage pages and community accounts on its behalf should ask how those accounts are verified and who holds them. Write the answer into the agency contract, together with a handover clause for the day the contract ends.

Common questions

Questions readers ask

Is Facebook still the largest platform in Vietnam?

Facebook's advertising reach was 79.0 million in late 2025. Zalo reported 78.3 million monthly active users and TikTok 76.1 million adults reachable with ads. The measures differ, so they cannot be ranked precisely.

Can a foreign brand use Zalo?

Businesses use Zalo Official Account to message and serve customers. You need someone who can reply in Vietnamese.

Do creators on TikTok and YouTube have to label paid content?

Yes. Both platforms require a paid-promotion setting, and Vietnamese law requires influencers to announce advertising clearly.

How reliable are the audience figures?

They are the platforms' own advertising-reach figures, except Zalo's, which are the company's active-user statements. Use them for scale, not precision.
